Take a "field trip" to seven of South Dakota’s engineering wonders without leaving your classroom. You can find a wealth of information about what these "wonders" mean to the community and the state.

The seven Local Wonders are:

The Big Stone Power Plant – northeast SD, near Milbank and Big Stone. Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: Jeff Endrizzi, Ottertail Power Company.

Meridian Bridge – Yankton. Tour Guide: Jay Vogt, SD Historical Preservation Office.

SD Capitol Building dome – Pierre.  Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: John White, State Engineer.

Keystone Wye Bridge – junction of Highways 16 and 16A near Keystone. Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: Clyde Jundt, with Kenneth Wilson, bridge designers.

Crazy Horse Monument – near Custer. Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: Gary Renner, Renner Sperlich Engineering Co.

Oahe Dam – on the Missouri River near Pierre & Fort Pierre. Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: John Bartel, US Army Corps of Engineers.

Black Hills Tunnels - Tour Guide & Expert Engineer: Chuck Piper, retired Dept. of Transportation Region Engineer.
