  • SD Symphony Orchestra's "Young People's Concert Series": Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" A unique combination: an excellent orchestra performing pieces from one of the world's greatest ballets by one of the world's great composers based on one of the world's most beloved plays by perhaps the world's greatest playwright.
  • Sioux Falls in the '50s 50's Influences and fads from local music to television to drive-ins, featuring Sioux Falls citizens who remember the era.

  • 100 Yards, 100 Years This SDPB Television documentary looks at High School Football in South Dakota from 1906 to 2006.
  • Capitol Scavenger Hunt Try these scavenger hunts the next time you visit the South Dakota State Capitol Building. (Watch video online)
  • Dakota Pathways South Dakota History curriculum in a 20 part series including video clips, classroom activities, challenges, and a teachers guide for each segment.
  • The Dust Bowl in South Dakota (Topics: Memories/ Lessons) Learn about the “Dirty Thirties” in South Dakota.
  • Images of the Past: The 1912 SD State Fair A film shot at the 1912 South Dakota State Fair is one of the earliest known motion pictures shot in the state. This program presents that restored film in it's entirety. Scenes from the 2012 Fair compare to scenes shot a century before and more.
  • Kings of the Court: History of Boys HS Basketball in SD An hour long documentary about the history of boys high school basketball in South Dakota.
  • Last Draft, Last Bid: 92 Years at the Sioux Falls Stock Yard On June 25, 2009, 21 black heifers were herded into the arena show ring at the Sioux Falls Stockyards. Offered for sale as a group, or draft, this consignment of cattle would be the last sold at the Sioux Falls Stockyards. A final bid was made and after 92 years of cattle sales at the facility, the auctioneer's gavel sounded for the last time.
  • Light of the Prairie: Stained Glass In South Dakota (Watch online, teacher's guide, photos and more) South Dakota Public Broadcasting Television explores the state's artistic history. The one-hour SDPB Television production travels throughout the state to look at a beautiful and often underappreciated aspect of South Dakota's history.
  • Local Heroes Includes personal stories about the depression era and WWII to the 211th Engineering Company's recent tour in Afghanistan.
  • Lost Bird Late in the 19th century, a Lakota child survived a massacre and was adopted by a prominent white couple, only to endure a life of racism, abuse and poverty. Her poignant story is told in Lost Bird Of Wounded Knee. The program is based on the acclaimed book, Lost Bird of Wounded Knee: Spirit of the Lakota, by Renee Sansom Flood. (Watch it)
  • Mission US is a multimedia project featuring free interactive adventure games set in different eras of U.S. history. Mission 1: "For Crown or Colony?" puts players in the shoes of Nat Wheeler, a printer's apprentice in 1770 Boston. In Mission 2: "Flight to Freedom", players take on the role of Lucy, a 14-year-old slave in Kentucky. In Mission 3: “A Cheyenne Odyssey” focuses on Plains Indian life in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
  • Native American Culture & History Programs encompassing history, culture, and the modern world of Native Americans in South Dakota and across the nation. Also, over 100 additional audio and video features from SDPB about the Lakota people in the Great Plains.
  • Oceti Sakowin: The People of the Seven Council Fires Their story in their words. Plus a teaching tool for Native American students. Bridging the Gap: Native American Education Due to cultural differences and socio-economic conditions, the challenges facing Native American students are many. This video/teaching tool offers insight into the problems and possible solutions for educators of Native American young people.
  • Our Statehouse: A Capitol IdeaA historical video documentary on the South Dakota Capitol building; including a lesson plans and other resources to enhance program use in the classroom.
  • Piece of Heaven - A Brief History of the Mickelson Trail "Piece of Heaven" tells the story of the development of South Dakota's Mickelson Trail. Now one of the state's most popular outdoor attractions, the Trail might never have been built.
  • Play Like a Girl: A History of Girls Basketball in South Dakota A one-hour SDBP documentary tracking the evolution of girls basketball in the state. Memorable coaches and players help tell the intriguing tale of one of our state's most beloved games.
  • Simple Justice: Suffrage in South Dakota: A history of the 60-year long struggle for woman suffrage in South Dakota.
  • The Stavig Letters Written in Norwegian and translated into English by Bruce and Marta Boyce, are an extensive collection of letters between two brothers, Lars Stavig who immigrated to America and his brother Knut who stayed in Norway.
  • Temples of Justice is a South Dakota Public Broadcasting documentary that looks at the history of South Dakota Courthouses. The program highlights several cities across South Dakota that were in the running to be county seats. Sometimes, the process was anything but civilized. Rivals used bribery, fire and theft to get their way. The documentary visits 44 courthouses in South Dakota and tells the colorful stories of several.
  • Tribes of Dakota This SDPB Radio documentary examines subjects like treaty rights, cultural survival, poverty, respect for the elders, the role of women, urban life, casinos, and the future. (More)
  • Traditional use of Tatanka (buffalo) A four-part PowerPoint series developed by Badlands National Park and South Dakota Public Broadcasting. The PowerPoint series includes a brief history of buffalo in South Dakota. Also, there are photos of buffalo parts, like a buffalo hide and tail. Your students are encouraged to guess the traditional use of the buffalo part and its location on the buffalo.
  • Wayward Soldier: Verne Miller and the Kansas City Massacre (Radio Documentary) SDPB Radio featured the fascinating life of South Dakotan Verne Miller in a one-hour documentary, Wayward Soldier: Verne Miller and the Kansas City Massacre.
