Democrats agree that something must change to help increase student performance in State schools, but they disagree with Governor Daugaard's proposal for a merit based pay system for teachers.
House Democratic Leader Bernie Hunhoff says the Democrats have come up with an alternative, and they're asking Republicans to join in a cooperative effort to increase the performance of both teachers and students.
"If the democrats could accomplish nothing else this session I think we would like to leave this session with a positive spirit among republicans and democrats and the legislative branch and the executive branch that we're moving forward together in partnership and try to rebuild our schools," Bernie says.
Republicans say the Governor's education proposal bill will increase student development.
