High schools across South Dakota are building confidence in students by teaching public speaking skills through Oral Interpretation and other fine arts programs. Thanks to dedication and practice, some of South Dakota’s most talented high school students are fearless when facing an audience.

Ever year the District 1B Oral Interpretation contests are held on the University of South Dakota campus in the al Neuharth Media Center. SDPB sat down with Josie Holzwarth, a junior at Parker High School. Josie participates in many activities ranging from volleyball & basketball to singing in her church choir to oral interpretation. She says that oral interpretation has not only introduced her to new people, it also prepares her for whatever her future holds.
