SDPB Archives: Temples of Justice

As we await producer Stephanie Rissler's newest documentary, Vanished South Dakota: Towns of Yesterday, we decided to take a dive into our digital library and re-watch her 2015 documentary on South Dakota's 45 courthouses and the colorful stories behind them, Temples of Justice.

Temples of Justice visits 45 courthouses in South Dakota and tells the colorful stories of several. You'll find out how swindlers changed history, where there's a bullet hole in a judge's chamber, what cowboys did with their hats and which courthouses helped South Dakotans survive the Great Depression. The production is supported by a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council.

Vanished South Dakota: Towns of Yesterday is producer Stephanie Rissler's newest documentary which visits remnants of once-thriving towns to discover what led to the birth, boom, and demise of formerly prosperous communities throughout the state. It will premiere on SDPBTV on August 19. More information: SDPB.org/Vanished/
