Creator of The Brain Scoop educational video blog and Field Museum Chief Curiosity Correspondent Emily Graslie will pique the curiosities of young geniuses at this year’s Outdoor University, at the Outdoor Campus West in Rapid City, Saturday July 11, from 10am-3pm.

Rapid City native Emily Graslie is not afraid of the “ick” factor in science. The young South Dakotan, regularly seen online by hundreds of thousands, explores wild places, follows scientific inquiries, and even gets a front-row view of dissections. She’s had close encounters with electric eels, frogs, ants, bats and more.

The creator of the popular educational YouTube channel “The Brain Scoop” guides viewers through days-in-the-life of scientists, from expeditions in the Amazon to some fairly gritty lab work. Through it all, she shares the joys of discovery with her fans.

Emily Graslie is also SDPB’s guest at Friday night’s (July 10) kickoff of Neutrino Day events at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead.

Outdoor University is a chance for individuals and families to try canoeing, archery, air rifles, fishing, kayaking and fly casting. Attendees can also learn about how GFP manages the natural resources of western South Dakota at hands-on stations.
