South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) is launching South Dakota Almanac, a new short-story digital series highlighting historic sports figures and game-changing sports moments in the state.

“South Dakota has an incredibly rich history of sports and sports figures,” says Nate Wek, SDPB Sports & Recreation Producer. ”South Dakota Almanac will recognize that history by featuring compelling people, places and events in brief but informative sports segments that can remember the past and also introduce younger audiences to the folks that paved the way.”

The series debuts with pieces on Earl Sande, three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey from Groton, SD, and Randy Lewis, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrester from Rapid City.

Future installments of South Dakota Almanac will be deployed bi-monthly on SDPB Sports' social media platforms and on the SDPB website at www.sdpb.org/almanac
