Email share

South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) hosts the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) and its Music Academy students for a live concert of student-composed music at the SDPB Black Hills Studio, Saturday, Sept. 21, 3pm at the SDPB Black Hills Studio, 415 Main Street, Rapid City. The performance is free and open to the public.

The SDSO’s Music Composition Academies are weeklong intensive composition summer camps in which students work with a team of composers to create their own composition for either string quartet or woodwind quintet. Following the academy sessions, the SDSP String Quartet and Woodwind Quartet rehearses each new composition with the student composers, and performs the works multiples times in Sisseton, Rapid City, Pine Ridge, and Sioux Falls.

Saturday’s performance at SDPB includes conversations with the student composers, who will share insights on the creative process behind their works.
