Sioux Falls Christian Wins Class A Championship

The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers are the 2014 Class A champions, finishing the season with a 27-1 overall record. This is the fourth state title in five years for the Chargers team.

Sioux Falls Christian won the first set 28-26 in a highly competitive back and forth battle. The second set was won 25-16, and the third and final set was won 25-12.

Shelby Zomermaand led the Chargers with 28 kills in the match. She also had three of the teams 10 blocks. Kortney Pollema led the team with 17 digs. Her sister Kelsey Pollema also put up a strong defensive performance with 10 digs.

The Miller Rustlers finished the year with an overall record of 23-8. Kristen Peterka led the Rustlers with 9 kills and 7 digs in the championship game. Macee Fanning also put up 7 digs for the Chargers.

Miller defeated Pine Ridge in three sets to start the tournament and then they defeated Mt. Vernon-Plankinton in the semi-final round, punching their ticket to the championship game.

Sioux Falls Christian defeated Sisseton in a sweep on the opening night of the tournament, followed by a win against Dakota Valley in four sets in the semi-finals. Saturday nights win against Miller, crowned the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers as the 2014 class A volleyball champions.
