The Atlanta Hawks are in the search for a new head coach, and sources close to the situation believe South Dakota native and Portland assistant Nate Tibbetts is one of the favored candidates.

ESPN’s Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday that the Hawks organization has a coaching interview set for Tibbetts.

Tibbetts is a graduate of Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School and the University of South Dakota – he played basketball at both. Today, Tibbetts is still ranked second all-time for the coyotes in career assists with 678.

After college, he was an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls (2001-05). Tibbetts later went on to head coach the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2007-2009).

It’s unknown as to what the Atlanta Hawks timetable is for when they want to hire a new coach, but it remains clear that Tibbetts is one of the front runners for the position.
