An open
letter to South Dakota's Educators
Dear
Educator,
I'm asking
for your help, because we have a common goal: education. It has been my
privilege to work with the educational community over the past two decades,
first on the school board in Sioux Falls, and now statewide with the Friends
of South Dakota Public Broadcasting, another educational institution.
Today, I am
requesting your support for the Friends of SDPB Endowment. The legacy of an
endowment will strengthen SDPB as we continue our mission to enrich the
lives of children, educators, and all South Dakotans. There are two
important reasons to support the endowment: (1) Your donation gives forever
because only the earnings are spent, and (2) All donations, up to $543,448,
are matched 1-for-3 by a Kresge Foundation grant.
Here's what one educator has to say:
–I encourage all educators to make a gift to continue the great work of
SDPB. I appreciate the quality, convenience and availability of the
classroom and professional resources offered by South Dakota Public
Broadcasting. Our students' education is enhanced and our professional lives
are enriched.”
Elaine Roberts, teacher and former SDEA leader
South Dakota
Public Broadcasting has enriched the educational lives of South Dakotans for
more than 40 years. The examples below demonstrate that it is an especially
important tool for educators in the classroom and for professional
development and also is an important tool for students.
à
TeacherLine offers a professional development option: a –virtual academy,”
where teachers can earn graduate credits while using the Internet.
à
SDPB
Education & Outreach offers a wide variety of programs, including 2 hours of
instructional television each school day as well as dozens of programs on
the overnight schedule for teachers to record and use later.
à
SDPB
Internet offers resources ranging from standards-based lesson plans to
reputable research sources.
à
SDPB
Internet has worked with high school students in five South Dakota
communities over the past year through the High School Internet Media
Partnership, teaching students how to create Web content, –preparing my
students for the jobs that will be available tomorrow” says teacher Jason
Lueth.
Recently,
Friends of SDPB received an online donation from out of state with this
comment: –SD Public Television was important for helping me become
interested in learning as a child. My parents couldn't afford to support it.
Now, I have a PhD and can afford to support SD Public Broadcasting so that
other children can benefit from it.”
SDPB is
making a difference. You, too, can help make a difference for SDPB by making
a contribution to our endowment.

P.S.
I hope you will take this opportunity to make a gift to the Friends of SDPB
Endowment. This is a gift that keeps on giving, because we never –spend”
your gift, we only use the earnings. Our mission from the beginning has been
education, and the educators of South Dakota À people like you À are largely
responsible for making SDPB a success. Thank you for making South Dakota
Public Broadcasting part of your classroom and part of your life.
