2009 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest is coming!

South Dakota Public Broadcasting will be accepting entries for Reading Rainbow’s 15th Annual Young Writers and Illustrators Contest starting January 5, 2009. This contest is a unique and exciting opportunity for students in kindergarten through third grade write and illustrate their own stories.

SDPB has sponsored the South Dakota division of the Young Writers and Illustrators Contest since 1996. The contest encourages, challenges, and rewards students to tell their own stories in their own words and with their own pictures. Contest judges are teachers, writers, artists, librarians, and others who know writing and illustrating.

All students who enter the contest will receive a Certificate of Achievement featuring LeVar Burton of “Reading Rainbow”, and the first, second, and third place winners from each grade will be presented with prize packages at an awards celebration at the SDPB studio. Additionally, SDPB will use each winning story in the “Dakota KidStories” program to be televised in Summer 2009.
