Reading Rockets: Launching Young Readers episode #202
Every year schools all across the country welcome larger numbers of students who
don't speak English. This episode, hosted by Rita Moreno, visits with children,
parents and teachers in Arlington, Virginia, Chicago, Illinois, and El Paso,
Texas, to find out what it takes to teach six-year-olds fluent in Spanish or
Russian or Hmong how to read in English. We'll also meet children's book author
Francisco Alarcon, who brings to life the challenges and rewards of being
bilingual.
