Mr. Bach Comes To Call
60 minutes

J.S. Bach mysteriously appears to Elizabeth, a modern child who is struggling with his famous Minuet in G. Accompanied by Mr. Bach and three of his choir boys, Elizabeth moves from skepticism to respect for Bach's playful nature, deep feelings, and musical genius. Based on historical fact, MR. BACH COMES TO CALL is features more than twenty excerpts of Bach's best-loved works beautifully performed by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra.

When Classical Kids' musical story, MR. BACH COMES TO CALL, was first played on Canada's national CBC radio, 4,000 people phoned the station to ask where they could find it. "Obviously", says Susan Hammond, producer of Classical Kids, "we had struck a chord with parents eager to share the priceless legacy of Bach's music with their children." In 2003, the internationally famous Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which has been producing Bach's music for all ages for over a century, suggested making a live show and subsequently a film version of MR. BACH COMES TO CALL. Thus began an inspiring collaboration that was joined by the stage expertise of Bethlehem's Touchstone Theatre and the imaginative film direction of Maria Erades. As in the Classical Kids CD, we begin with the dramatic send-off of Bach's music into space aboard Voyager II. Down here on earth, Bach mysteriously appears to Elizabeth, a modern child who is struggling with his famous Minuet in G. The City of Bethlehem, where Bach's great Mass in B-Minor was performed for the first time in North America in 1900, is the perfect setting for this magical fantasy. Accompanied by Mr. Bach and three of his choir boys, Elizabeth moves from skepticism to respect for Bach's playful nature, deep feelings, and musical genius. MR. BACH COMES TO CALL is pure family entertainment. Based on historical fact, it features more than twenty excerpts of Bach's best-loved works beautifully performed by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra.
