High School Internet Media Pilot Project
Background South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) is an advocate of audio and video delivered via computer. Its a very flexible medium; relatively simple to produce and store; its easily deliverable to a wide and varied audience. Among the various web media projects you find on this web site is sports.sdpb.org. It is a partnership with the SDHSAA to report on ALL High School Championship Activities. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has recognized this SDPB innovation and is supporting efforts to expand the project and create a technology learning experience in 5 pilot high schools. SDPB is documenting the project as a model for other public broadcasters around the country. SDPB contacted several high schools and Sioux Falls Washington, Huron, Brookings, Watertown and Aberdeen Roncalli agreed to participate. The Project Each school received and "Internet Tool Kit" including a video camera, audio recorder, digital camera, a laptop computer work station and all of the related software and cables needed to create audio/video components for the internet. SDPB is assisting in the training process and in developing web media. Additional project partners include the K12 Data Center at Dakota State University in Madison. Through the 05/06 school year, schools are developing web media projects that; highlight school activities and achievement, can become curriculum components, and strengthen the school relationship in the local community. Media Examples A variety of Internet Media projects are archived on the associated school page on this site. In addition, these schools continue this project in the current school year and links to additional media are also available. Each of the schools worked with SDPB to produce web media associated with South Dakota High School Association Championship Fine Arts and Athletic Events. A complete web of those events are available at http://sports.sdpb.org Here are some web media examples from that project: 2003
Girls Tennis Future As South Dakota Public Broadcasting enters the era of Digital Broadcasting, our role as a communication link to educators, and the state in general, will grow exponentially. This project may serve as a model to show how a school, and therefore any information based organization, can create media, share it with others, and in turn find new sources of information. We recognize that technology is a tool...a tool to help students of all ages to learn, dream and grow. |
