Economic Development Along I-29, NASA Grant Research, and the Proof of Concept Process
Innovation - 08/19/2011
Carol Cumber, SDSU Economics Professor and Joshua Warne, Master's Student, discuss their I-29 Corridor Study. They are looking at "industry clusters" that already exist in communities in 20 counties along or near I-29 and what related industries would complement them as a way to drive economic growth. The theory is to change from a competitive nature town to a more collaborative approach to economic development.
Bill Gibbons, Denny Otsuga and Mark Luecke discuss receiving $750,000 grant from NASA to study ways to use cyanobacteria to make energy-dense fuels and high-value chemicals, oxygen and cleansed water directly from carbon dioxide, sunlight and wastewater.
To finish the show, Otsuga and Luecke discus the Proof of Concept process that led to the start of four companies from SDSU research.
