Addressing Rural Health Needs, Personalized Healthcare, and Eye-Gaze Computer Technology

This week on Innovation, hear a discussion about the Avera Rural Health Conference. Avera's Rachel Sherard and keynote speaker David Okerlund talk about the event. They discuss the purpose of bringing all of the vested stakeholders in communities together to learn and to become engaged in how to collaboratively address rural needs for the betterment of everyone.

Dr. Eugene Hoyme is the president of Sanford Research USD and Joe Hammang is the senior director of World Science Policy for Pfizer. They both spoke at the South Dakota Biotech Summit in Sioux Falls. They discuss the trend to move toward personalized healthcare.

Dr. Elizabeth Hanson is with the USD Department of Communication and Sciences and Disorders. She shows host Cara Hetland how to use eye-gaze communication without speech. It is a computer that has a special setting so that when the cursor pauses for a set time it results in a mouse click.
