Few big bands were quite the extreme study in contrast as the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra of the early 1940's. They could blast the roof off with high energy swing, then turn around and play the most romantic, lushest sounds imaginable. With great singers and musicians like Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra was a musical variety show.
