The Oglala Sioux Tribe is gearing up to involve the community in the sentencing process. At a training session about a month ago, people came together to learn how they might collectively find a solution after a wrong has been committed. The approach returns the tribe to a traditional justice system lost when Western European processes took hold. For today’s Dakota Digest, SDPB’s Victoria Wicks traveled to Pine Ridge for the training and followed up this week to find out what progress has been made.
