Senate Health & Human Services

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2004 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Monday and Wednesday at 10am in room 423 of the Capitol.

SB 51 -create the South Dakota Certification Board for Alcohol and Drug Professionals and to provide for its powers and duties.
SB 52 -revise certain provisions concerning the fees for controlled substances registration.
SB 53 -establish a fee for the licensing of ionizing radiation sources.

SB 54 - provide for the inclusion of certain information on required abortion reports
SB 127 - require certain health care facilities to provide prices for certain procedures and tests
HB 1065 - establish a grant program within the Department of Health for the purchase of equipment and materials for mosquito prevention and control efforts at the local level and to declare an emergency

SB 147 - establish a fund for the research of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries and to create an advisory council for the disbursement of the fund
SB 70 - prohibit discrimination against certain health care providers by health insurers
SB 184 - prohibit human cloning
HB 1027 - provide for the discharge of an involuntarily committed person if that person no longer meets commitment criteria

HB 1267: revise certain provisions regarding blood samples taken after violent or accidental deaths.
HB 1165: amend rule-making authority and rules to allow certain facilities and hospice programs to redispense certain pharmaceutical drugs under certain circumstances.
HB 1179: provide for the regulation of pharmacy technicians.
HB 1096: revise certain provisions regarding licensure by examination for physicians.
HB 1189: revise certain provisions regarding orders for dental laboratory work.
HB 1278: revise certain provisions relating to the practice of respiratory care.

HB 1309: increase the number of physicians that can participate in the physician tuition reimbursement program.
HB 1228: provide for interstate contracts for the treatment of individuals with mental illness or chemical dependency.
HB 1199: exempt certain nonprofit organizations providing dental care from dental licensure requirements
HB 1273: allow emergency medical technicians to be included in peer review committees
HB 1214: require certain prenatal information to be provided when a pregnancy test has been performed and there has been a positive result.
Legislative Day 29
2/21/04 - complete meeting

HB 1159: prohibit certain persons from providing care and supervision for children in child welfare agencies, registered family day care homes, and unregistered family day care homes and to declare an emergency.
HCR 1011: Requesting all school districts in South Dakota to suspend the sale of soft drinks and junk foods during school hours.
