Senate Education

There are 40 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2005 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Education Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday at 7:45am in room 423 of the Capitol.

SB 64: provisions regarding school district funds
SB 65: calculation of school district excess general fund balance

SB 11: all standardized achievement tests be monitored and that sanctions be imposed when unsatisfactory academic progress is identified
SB 71: establish a four-day school week that school districts must follow in order to receive state aid to education
SB 64: revise certain provisions regarding school district funds

SB 72 include legal costs as allowable expenditures from the special education fund.
SB 65 revise the calculation of a school district excess general fund balance.
SB 66 provide certain options to school boards in reorganization.

HB 1063 repeal certain administrative rule-making authority regarding education for gifted children.
HB 1064 remove the requirement for a certificate of health for certain persons with continuing contracts in a consolidated school district.
SB 72 include legal costs as allowable expenditures from the special education fund.

SB 101 establish the opening day of the school term

SB 125 exempt transfers of funds from certain municipal revenue producing ventures from the calculation of the general fund balance of school districts
SB 166 provide that health education be factual, medically accurate, and objective
HB 1081 allow a school district to maintain permanent school records electronically rather than on microfilm

SB 158 provide for the certification of distance learning providers, to establish a distance learning grant program for students, and to make an appropriation therefor
SB 185 revise the calculation of a school district excess general fund balance
SB 215 refer a measure to a vote of the electors to require that public schools begin the regular school term after Labor Day
SB 102 appropriate money for secondary career and technical education
SB 118 appropriate money for enhancement of secondary career and technical education

HB 1082 appropriate money for postsecondary technical education enhancement
HB 1127 authorize the provision of special education and related services to certain alternative instruction students
HB 1203 revise certain provisions regarding the distribution of the tax imposed on financial institutions

HB 1170 provide for the endorsement of distance learning instructors and to authorize the Board of Education to promulgate rules relating to distance learning courses
HB 1067 revise the property tax levies for the general fund of a school district
