House Education

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2006 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The House Education Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10:00am.

HB 1024 - repeal certain provisions providing for the appointment of the director of vocational education.
HB 1025 - revise state aid to special education.
HB 1026 - repeal certain provisions regarding qualifications for members of the South Dakota Board of Education.

HB 1020 - reappropriate certain moneys to state aid to general education.
HB 1061 - provide for certain audits of associations of school boards.

HB 1147 - revise certain eligibility restrictions related to secondary school extracurricular activities.

HB 1175 - require all children to attend kindergarten and to establish a minimum length of time for kindergarten programs.
HB 1220 - temporarily allow contractual agreements between certain school districts and to declare an emergency.
HB 1193 - limit certain cooperative arrangements among school districts.
HB 1214 - create a school holiday on the Tuesday after Labor Day.

HB 1067 - classify certain persons as residents for purposes of higher education tuition.
HB 1079 - define an enrolled student.
HB 1160 - provide additional state funding to school districts that offer certain services and opportunities to students receiving alternative instruction.
HB 1176 - define enrolled pupils or students for purposes of state aid to education.
HB 1193 - limit certain cooperative arrangements among school districts.

HB 1182 - allow school districts to expend from the capital outlay fund for some of their mileage reimbursement costs.
HB 1213 - provide for the compensation of school districts that experience significant gains in enrollment from one year to the next.

HB 1217 - provide for the clarification of sexual abstinence instruction.
HB 1194 - prohibit the distribution of contraceptives to public school students.
