Senate Health & Human Services

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2006 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Monday and Wednesday at 10am in room 423 of the Capitol.

SB 14 - revise certain residency requirements regarding the eligibility for admission to the State Veterans' Home.
SB 32 - reauthorize a grant program within the Department of Health for the purchase of equipment and materials for mosquito prevention and control efforts at the local level and to declare an emergency.

SB 36 - revise certain provisions pertaining to interpreters for the deaf.

SB 33 - require each applicant for licensure as a nurse and each licensee who is the subject of a disciplinary investigation to submit to a state and federal criminal background check.
SB 34 - revise the quorum requirements for the Board of Nursing.
SB 53 - revise certain provisions regarding the consideration of assets for the purpose of long-term care eligibility.
11th Legislative Day

SB 115 - allow a mother to breast-feed her child anywhere she and the child have a right to be.
SB 126 - prohibit the state health plan from paying for health care services provided out-of-state except in certain cases.
SB 123 - place certain requirements on sales of prescription drugs.
SB 36 - revise certain provisions pertaining to interpreters for the deaf.
14th Legislative Day

SB 184 - require a report to the Legislature regarding certain veterans' health issues.
SB 185 - require inspections of certain facilities by the Department of Health.
SB 175 - ensure appropriate emergency health care for certain rape survivors and to require health care facilities and the Department of Health to provide information to certain rape survivors.

HB 1034 - revise the definition of anabolic steroid, to schedule certain controlled substances, and to declare an emergency.
HB 1039 - revise certain provisions pertaining to the disposition of funds collected on local exchange service lines, cellular telephones, and radio pager devices.
HB 1041 - allow for denial, suspension, or revocation of emergency medical technician certificates for past gross incompetence and for unprofessional or dishonorable conduct.
SB 14 - revise certain residency requirements regarding the eligibility for admission to the State Veterans' Home.
SB 36 - revise certain provisions pertaining to interpreters for the deaf.
SB 184 - require a report to the Legislature regarding certain veterans' health issues.

SB 177 - create a rebate program for businesses that invest in lactation facilities and to make an appropriation therefor.
HB 1059 - provide for notification by the Department of Social Services to the parents of certain determinations of child abuse or neglect.
HB 1035 - revise the renewal fee paid by medical assistants.
HB 1072 - direct the Department of Social Services to establish the South Dakota long-term care partnership program.
HB 1156 - require a study of the continuum of care needs for senior citizens.

HB 1037 - revise certain provisions related to the prescription of schedule II controlled drugs by physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners, and certified nurse midwives.
24th Legislative Day
02/13/2006 Complete Meeting
HB 1141 - provide standards for interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing by requiring national interpreter certification and to repeal the state certification process and replace it with registration.

HB 1040 - revise the minimum monthly fee charged for care at the Human Services Center.
