House Health & Human Services

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2008 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The House Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:45am in room 468 of the Capitol.

HB 1030 - revise the membership of the State Board of Podiatry Examiners, the State Board of Pharmacy, and the State Board of Funeral Service.
HB 1028 - revise certain provisions regarding the regulation of physician assistants.
HB 1029 - place certain drugs on the controlled substances schedule and to declare an emergency.
HB 1031 - provide for the regulation of telepharmacy and to establish a fee therefor.

HB 1031 - provide for the regulation of telepharmacy and to establish a fee therefor.
HB 1066 - authorize the Board of Regents to initiate a program at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to enhance services to children diagnosed with low vision, to authorize the employment of staff, and to make an appropriation therefor.
HB 1077 - impose a tax on the net revenues of intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded.

HB 1088 - allow volunteer school personnel to administer glucagon and to allow students to possess and self-administer diabetes medication.
SB 20 - require a bachelor's degree for persons applying for a chiropractic license.
SB 16 - prohibit advertising chiropractic services without first obtaining a license.
SB 17 - require each applicant for licensure as a chiropractor in South Dakota or a licensee who is the subject of a disciplinary investigation to submit to a state and federal criminal background check.
SB 18 - revise the chiropractic scope of practice.

SB 15 - require certain immunizations for students attending postsecondary educational institutions.
HB 1278 - require emergency medical technicians to be trained in the administration of epinephrine.
HB 1296 - require abortion facilities to offer sonograms to pregnant women under certain circumstances.

HB 1168 - require itemized statements of charges to patients receiving medical care or services.
HB 1167 - require hospitals to report additional information on hospital reimbursements and to report performance outcome data and to provide that this information be available on the Department of Health's web site.
HB 1306 - revise certain provisions of administrative rules to authorize medical assistance under medicaid for certain youth on Indian reservations.
HB 1223 - reauthorize the construction of nursing facilities on American Indian reservations under certain circumstances.
HB 1155 - revise certain provisions concerning wholesale drug distributors.

HB 1267 - allow nurse midwives to practice as independent practitioners.
HB 1287 - revise certain provisions relating to the compilation and release of patient information to determine medical indigency.

SCR 4 - Requesting all qualifying school districts in South Dakota to use the South Dakota Department of Education developed, and South Dakota Board of Education approved, Model Wellness Policy as a guideline.
SB 187 - provide for appropriate emergency health care for rape survivors and to require health care facilities and the Department of Health to provide information to rape survivors.
SB 206 - permit and provide for the issuance of certificates of birth resulting in stillbirth.

SB 196 - revise the places where smoking is prohibited.
SB 187 - provide for appropriate emergency health care for rape survivors and to require health care facilities and the Department of Health to provide information to rape survivors.
SB 197 - adopt the Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.
