Senate Commerce

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2008 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Commerce Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday at 10am in room 413 of the Capitol.

SB 37 - provide certain immunity for architects and engineers in cases of declared emergencies.
SB 38 - define expansion of an existing building or structure for purposes of the tax refund program for the construction of agricultural processing and new business facilities.
SB 24 - update certain citations to federal regulations regarding the pipeline safety inspection and to revise certain provisions regarding the assessment of pipeline inspection fees.
SB 35 - revise certain provisions relating to the licensing and regulation of technical professionals.
SB 36 - revise certain provisions regarding exemptions from the regulation of technical professions.

SB 48 - adopt consumer protection standards for property casualty insurance claims.

SB 93 - provide for promotional displays by vehicle dealers under certain conditions.
SB 107 - set the apprentice to experienced electrician ratio on job sites.
SB 159 - allow a taxpayer who is the subject of an audit to provide certain pertinent papers and documents after the prescribed deadline under limited circumstances.
SB 160 - require timely honoring of rebates and to provide a private cause of action.
SB 47 - prevent illegal multiple employer welfare arrangements and other illegal health insurers.

SB 43 - provide for the registration of tobacco retailers.
SB 165 - repeal and reestablish provisions to regulate mortgage lenders and brokers.
SB 147 - revise the definition of wages for unemployment insurance.
SB 48 - adopt consumer protection standards for property casualty insurance claims.
SB 108 - provide for the continuation of certain health insurance coverage for dependents.

SB 152 - provide for the imposition of civil penalties for failure to timely file certain workers' compensation reports.
SB 175 - provide for the monitoring by the Department of Labor of all written and electronically filed reports of injury, all payments for reported injuries, and compliance with all reporting and payment timeliness, and to clarify the legal status of such monitored information.
SB 151 - provide for additional compensation awards to workers' compensation claimants due to unconscionable acts of the insurer or employer, to provide an award in addition to and, which is not intended to replace existing penalties, and to provide for administrative action against workers' compensation insurers under certain circumstances.
SB 141 - provide for the award of attorney's fees for the refusal or delay of insurers and self insured employers in the payment of workers' compensation or medical payments.
SB 150 - provide for the timely submission and processing of certain information regarding workers' compensation claims and to provide for the imposition of civil penalties.
SB 139 - provide for the imposition of penalties as a result of specific prohibited conduct with respect to workers' compensation.

SCR 3 - Encouraging Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act.
SB 166 - authorize additional off-sale retail liquor licenses in certain municipalities.
HB 1051 - revise certain requirements regarding the licensing of insurance producers.
HB 1052 - revise the requirements for coordination of benefits between health plans.
HB 1053 - provide certain standards for health maintenance organizations in individual health insurance.
HB 1054 - revise certain requirements for the independent audit of insurers.

HB 1089 - define the term, consideration, as it relates to the payment of fees for certain transfers or exchanges of real property.
HB 1114 - allow postsecondary technical institutes to engage in business-type activities.
HB 1122 - revise and update the references to the building codes.
HB 1129 - provide for the conversion of certain cooperatives into business corporations.
HB 1040 - repeal the manager license, revise the requirements for a salon license, and revise the requirements for an instructor license with regard to the practice of cosmetology.
HB 1257 - reduce the minimum number of board members of trust companies.
27th Legislative Day
02/15/2007 Complete Meeting
HB 1150 - revise certain provisions relating to deceptive trade practices.
HB 1172 - clarify certain limits placed on persons lending money.
HB 1180 - repeal certain provisions found to be unconstitutional, which required insurers to obtain a countersignature on policies.
HB 1285 - restrict unsolicited commercial electronic mail advertisements.
30th Legislative Day
02/22/2007 Complete Meeting
HB 1144 - limit the transfer of contested Public Utilities Commission cases to the Office of Hearing Examiners.
HB 1196 - provide for notice and opportunity to remedy residential construction defects.
HB 1197 - allow the Department of Public Safety to regulate installers of manufactured homes and to allow the department to establish an installation inspection program.

HB 1126 - revise certain provisions concerning municipal sewer service.
HB 1162 - revise certain provisions relating to the sales and distribution of tobacco products.
