Senate Health & Human Services

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2008 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Monday and Wednesday at 10am in room 423 of the Capitol.

SB 16 - prohibit advertising chiropractic services without first obtaining a license.
SB 17 - require each applicant for licensure as a chiropractor in South Dakota or a licensee who is the subject of a disciplinary investigation to submit to a state and federal criminal background check.
SB 18 - revise the chiropractic scope of practice.
SB 20 - require a bachelor's degree for persons applying for a chiropractic license.

HB 1030 - revise the membership of the State Board of Podiatry Examiners, the State Board of Pharmacy, and the State Board of Funeral Service.

SB 119 - establish a pilot project for an alternative care program for adults with substance abuse issues, to provide for a report to the Legislature, and to make an appropriation therefor.
SB 170 - provide for a study of medicaid.
SB 148 - require proof of citizenship with regard to certain applications for aid or assistance.
SB 162 - establish an alcohol and drug addiction counselor loan forgiveness program and to make an appropriation therefor.
SB 140 - preclude mitigated, corrected, uncorrected effects, or reduction in benefits when determining an award for benefits which may be subjected to the provisions governing temporary, partial, permanent partial or permanent total disability benefits.

SB 209 - create the South Dakota Boxing Commission and to provide for the supervision of boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, wrestling, and sparring exhibitions in the state.

HB 1105 - revise certain provisions related to immunity from civil liability for the placement and use of automated external defibrillators.

SCR 2 - Encouraging all school districts in South Dakota to adopt the Standards for Food and Beverages as outlined in the South Dakota Department of Education Model Wellness Policy.
SCR 4 - Requesting all qualifying school districts in South Dakota to use the South Dakota Department of Education developed, and South Dakota Board of Education approved, Model Wellness Policy as a guideline.
SB 208 - place certain restrictions on the use of tanning devices by minors.

HB 1077 - impose a tax on the net revenues of intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded.
SB 208 - place certain restrictions on the use of tanning devices by minors.
HB 1296 - require abortion facilities to offer sonograms to pregnant women under certain circumstances.
