Senate Local Government 

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2008 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Local Government Committee is scheduled to meet Monday and Wednesday at 7:45am in room 423 of the Capitol.

HB 1007 - revise certain provisions concerning election deadlines and time frames.
SB 81 - remove the reference to party affiliations for independent candidates on the certificate of nomination and the ballot.

SB 87 - permit school district boards to consist of a combination of members who are elected at large and by member representation areas.
SB 163 - provide for the recall of certain school district officials.
SB 123 - provide that sheriffs receive payment for marshaling assets for an execution of judgment or execution sale even if no sale occurs.
SB 82 - revise certain fees charged by sheriffs.

SB 181 - allow a county to issue off-sale wine dealer's licenses to certain destination facilities.
SB 135 - increase the minimum salary payable to county officials, state's attorneys, and sheriffs.
SB 153 - provide for the suspension of certain county officials pending completion of criminal prosecutions.

HB 1006 - revise certain procedures regarding the election process.
HB 1110 - increase the fines for certain violations of local ordinances.
HB 1111 - permit local government officials and employees to use electronic payments and to permit the state and its political subdivisions to accept electronic payments.

HB 1127 - clarify the authority of county commissioners to set their annual salary.

HB 1143 - repeal the limitation on liability of local government agencies and their employees for year 2000 litigation.
HB 1130 - increase the level of expenditures that may be incurred before requiring the advertisement for bids for the purchase of materials, supplies, or equipment.
SB 189 - revise certain provisions related to the transfer of certain alcoholic beverage licenses.
HB 1121 - provide for the purchase, sale, or transfer of certain solid waste or recyclable materials by local government entities and to revise certain provisions related to the operation of solid waste and recycling facilities.

HB 1154 - revise the provisions concerning the addition of noncontiguous property to certain business improvement districts that have a common zoning designation.

HB 1210 - revise certain provisions concerning municipal operating agreements.
HB 1217 - require certain signs to identify polling places on election day.
HB 1240 - revise the filing deadlines for the nomination of certain independent candidates.
