House Transportation

There are 35 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2008 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The House Transportation Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday at 7:45 am in room 464 of the Capitol.

HB 1039 - remove a segment of State Highway 25 in Hanson County from the state trunk highway system.
HB 1040 - remove a segment of State Highway 314 in Yankton County from the state trunk highway system.
HB 1018 - refund special fuel taxes under certain circumstances.
8th Legislative Day
01/17/2008 Complete Meeting
HB 1144 - make an appropriation for costs related to the purchase of motorcycles for use in the motorcycle safety training courses, and to declare an emergency.
HB 1161 - revise certain provisions regarding secondary roads within townships.
HB 1014 - stagger the licensing of snowmobiles and boats.
HB 1038 - revise certain provisions regarding accident reports and insurance premium increases involving the operators of emergency snow removal equipment.
9th Legislative Day

HB 1170 - allow pneumatic tires with retractable studs to be used upon highways year round.
HB 1195 - revise the requirements for a damage disclosure statement for motor vehicles.
11th Legislative Day

HB 1160 - add a portion of roadway in Mellette County to the state trunk highway system as a part of Highway 63.
SB 15 - provide certain provisions regarding an electronic vehicle title.
HB 1241 - provide licensed dealers additional time to deliver a title under certain conditions and to authorize the establishment of a transaction fee for certain online access to the title and registration system.
HB 1240 - increase certain vehicle dealer license fees.
14th Legislative Day
01/29/2008 Complete Meeting
HB 1264 - permit certain persons with insulin-treated diabetes mellitus to get an endorsement on a commercial driver license to drive a school bus.
HB 1191 - revise certain provisions regarding the display of customized motorcycles at certain events.
HB 1282 - provide for the assumption of risk by operators of off-road vehicles for certain injuries arising out of operating off-road vehicles.
16th Legislative Day
01/31/2008 Complete Meeting
HB 1299 - establish a task force to study highway needs and financing of highway needs in the state and to declare an emergency.
SB 12 - update certain provisions pertaining to motor carrier safety and transportation of hazardous materials.
SB 13 - revise certain provisions regarding the suspension of a minor's driving privileges.
HB 1255 - provide for the titling and registration of certain low-speed vehicles.
HB 1315 - create a Highway Finance Task Force to study highway needs and financing.
18th Legislative Day
02/05/2008 Complete Meeting
SB 156 - revise certain provisions regarding special motor vehicle license plates for veterans with a disability, prisoners of war, Pearl Harbor survivors, and Purple Heart recipients.
HB 1235 - reduce the license fees for motor vehicles displaying distinctive license plates for Purple Heart recipients.
SB 64 - provide certain provisions regarding the regulation of recreational park trailers.
SB 139 - revise the definition for authorized emergency vehicles.
SB 68 - repeal certain provisions regarding mufflers on motorcycles.
SB 87 - reduce the period of effectiveness for cease and desist orders issued to certain dealers.
SB 63 - require local law enforcement officers to provide certain information to repossession businesses under certain circumstances.
28th Legislative Day
02/21/2008 Complete Meeting
SB 174 - revise certain provisions relating to the exercise of eminent domain by railroads.
SCR 7 - Petitioning the United States Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act.
