House Health & Human Services

There are 40 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2009 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The House Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday at 7:45am in room 412 of the Capitol.

HB 1032 - revise the definition of an accredited prevention or treatment facility for the purposes of the prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse.

HB 1041 - provide physicians with a limited permit to practice medicine within a residency program and to revise certain provisions regarding the Board of Examiners authority to administer resident certificates and resident training permits.
HB 1042 - permit an extension to the required examination time period allowed for certain medical licensing examinations.
HB 1092 - regulate the practice of genetic counseling and to prohibit the practice of genetic counseling without a license.

HB 1091 - make an appropriation to initiate a master of social work degree program in higher education.
HB 1090 - prohibit the possession of Salvia divinorum or salvinorin A and to declare an emergency.

HB 1127 - provide safe legal access to medical marijuana for certain qualified persons.

HCR 1006 - Encouraging all South Dakota schools to place a sufficient number of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in their facilities, at their athletic fields, and with their athletic staff, and to adopt a medical emergency response plan that includes AED use.
HB 1179 - provide for the practice and regulation of licensed midwives.
21st Legislative Day

HB 1202 - permit certain persons with insulin-treated diabetes mellitus to get an endorsement on a commercial driver license to drive a school bus.
HB 1204 - provide for the partial replacement of nursing home facilities under certain circumstances.
25th Legislative Day

SB 109 - revise the provisions for the risk pool to allow uninsurable children to enroll and to provide for additional funding.
SB 19 - revise the grounds for which continuation or conversion is not required for certain group health policies.
SB 20 - revise the lifetime benefit maximum for the health insurance risk pool.

SB 15 - revise certain provisions regarding the confidentiality and release of certain child abuse or neglect information.
SB 35 - revise the definition of an assisted living center.
SB 46 - change the name of adjustment training center to community support provider.
SB 45 - provide an exception to the practice of seclusion as it pertains to the treatment of a person with a developmental disability.
SB 73 - permit persons sixteen years of age to donate blood under certain circumstances.
SB 76 - require background investigations for certain optometrist licensees and applicants.

SB 153 - provide procedures by which adopted persons may obtain their original birth certificates and the contact preference of birth parents.
SB 160 - revise the grounds for which a license of an athletic trainer may be revoked, suspended, or canceled.
