House Transportation

There are 40 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2009 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The House Transportation Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 am in room 413 of the Capitol.

HB 1024 - authorize the Department of Transportation to regulate the operation of off-road vehicles in certain state highway ditches.
HB 1023 - authorize the secretary of transportation to create limited speed zones through highway work areas under certain conditions.
7th Legislative Day
01/22/2009 Complete Meeting
HB 1002 - provide for the transfer of certain moneys from the Department of Game, Fish and Parks to the county road and bridge funds.
HB 1006 - create a Highway Finance Task Force to study long-term highway needs and to reform the method of financing highways in the state.
12th Legislative Day
01/29/2009 Complete Meeting
HB 1133 - authorize certain specialty license plates to be placed on motorcycles.
15th Legislative Day
02/03/2009 Complete Meeting
HB 1192 - require lighted front and rear lamps on motor vehicles when the windshield wipers are in use.
HB 1210 - revise certain provisions of administrative rules that establish the mileage allowance for the use of privately owned motor vehicles by state employees.
HB 1126 - revise certain provisions regarding a private applicator of pesticides becoming a qualified driver for the purpose of motor carrier safety.
17th Legislative Day

HB 1121 - establish certain procedural requirements related to the relocation of electrical lines, communication lines, and pipelines.
HB 1140 - make an appropriation from the railroad trust fund for the construction of a railroad siding.
HB 1160 - revise certain provisions requiring the construction of fences by railroads.

HB 1214 - remove certain speed restrictions for certain vehicles hauling agricultural products or livestock.
HB 1272 - add a portion of roadway in Mellette County to the state trunk highway system as a part of Highway 63.
HB 1222 - allow a winter load increase of certain motor vehicle weight restrictions.

HB 1281 - enhance funding for state highways by increasing fees on certain signs, displays, or devices.
23rd Legislative Day

HB 1193 - increase the license fees for certain noncommercial motor homes, recreational vehicles, and noncommercial trailers and semitrailers.
HB 1121 - establish certain procedural requirements related to the relocation of electrical lines, communication lines, and pipelines.
HB 1228 - require mopeds used on public highways to be titled and licensed as a motorcycle and to increase license fees for motorcycles.
HB 1227 - increase license fees for certain noncommercial motor homes and trailers.
25th Legislative Day

HB 1007 - increase certain noncommercial and commercial motor vehicle license fees and to increase the fuel excise tax on certain fuel used by motor vehicles.
SB 17 - revise certain driver licensing provisions.

SB 30 - repeal the requirement that the Department of Transportation file a copy of the official state trunk highway map with every county auditor.
SB 23 - revise the state trunk highway system.
31st Legislative Day
03/03/2009 Complete Meeting
SB 18 - update certain provisions pertaining to motor carrier safety and transportation of hazardous materials.
SB 32 - increase certain fees related to the use of motor vehicles.
SB 129 - revise certain conditions that must be met before an extension of State Highway 53 in Tripp County is added to the state trunk highway system.
SB 98 - revise the minimum amount required for reporting damage to a motor vehicle and a boat.
33rd Legislative Day
03/05/2009 Complete Meeting
SB 151 - provide for a special motor vehicle license plate for parents of members of the United States Armed Forces who died while in service of this country.
