Senate Health & Human Services

There are 40 Legislative Days scheduled for the 2009 session. Standing Legislative Committees meet in regularly scheduled sessions during the morning hours of each Legislative Day. Some committees will hold special evening meetings. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:45 am in room 412 of the Capitol.

SB 46 - change the name of adjustment training center to community support provider.
SB 45 - provide an exception to the practice of seclusion as it pertains to the treatment of a person with a developmental disability.

HB 1032 - revise the definition of an accredited prevention or treatment facility for the purposes of the prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse.
SB 73 - permit persons sixteen years of age to donate blood under certain circumstances.

SB 76 - require background investigations for certain optometrist licensees and applicants.
SB 72 - make an appropriation to initiate a master of social work degree program in higher education.
13th Legislative Day

SB 19 - revise the grounds for which continuation or conversion is not required for certain group health policies.
SB 20 - revise the lifetime benefit maximum for the health insurance risk pool.
SB 109 - revise the provisions for the risk pool to allow uninsurable children to enroll and to provide for additional funding.

SB 83 - prohibit smoking tobacco or carrying lighted tobacco products in certain places and to require certain persons to inform violators of the prohibition.

SB 125 - revise certain provisions of the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.
SB 130 - require written consent for the issuance of certain disinterment permits.
SB 153 - provide procedures by which adopted persons may obtain their original birth certificates and the contact preference of birth parents.
SB 150 - establish a presumption regarding occupational disease disabilities of certain firefighters.
SB 97 - encourage the Department of Health to include online training programs for courses required of food service managers.
SB 139 - provide for certain restrictions for the use of tanning devices by minors.
18th Legislative Day
02/09/2009 Complete Meeting
SB 92 - require the physical presence of any physician scheduled to perform an abortion at the site of the abortion procedure on the day prior to the abortion procedure.
SB 177 - adopt the South Dakota Indian Child Welfare Act.
SB 198 - require notice if certain immunizations contain more than trace amounts of mercury.
20th Legislative Day

SB 193 - expand medicaid eligibility for pregnant women upon certain conditions and to provide an appropriation therefor.
HB 1092 - regulate the practice of genetic counseling and to prohibit the practice of genetic counseling without a license.
SB 92 - require the physical presence of any physician scheduled to perform an abortion at the site of the abortion procedure on the day prior to the abortion procedure.
HB 1042 - permit an extension to the required examination time period allowed for certain medical licensing examinations.
HB 1041 - provide physicians with a limited permit to practice medicine within a residency program and to revise certain provisions regarding the Board of Examiners authority to administer resident certificates and resident training permits.

SB 134 - provide health insurance coverage for contraceptive drugs and devices.

HB 1080 - revise certain provisions relating to internet and mail order sales of cigarettes and tobacco products.
SB 193 - expand medicaid eligibility for pregnant women upon certain conditions and to provide an appropriation therefor.

03/02/2009 Complete Meeting
HB 1240 - prohibit smoking tobacco or carrying lighted tobacco products in certain places and to require certain persons to inform violators of the prohibition.
HB 1239 - create the South Dakota Boxing Commission and to provide for the supervision of boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts competitions and sparring exhibitions in the state.
