Musician Andrew Bird defies easy categorization, mixing violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling with witty lyrics. Following his formal training as a violinist -- and a stint in the hot jazz/swing revival scene -- he has found a home playing solo in rock clubs across the globe.
"I sort of play with words and ideas, and they eventually kind of find their way into the nooks and crannies of the melodies," Bird says. He plays three songs from his latest album, The Mysterious Production of Eggs, live in NPR's Studio 3A.
