The Mirage hotel and casino in Las Vegas is closing this summer

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. The Mirage hotel, which helped to spur a construction boom in Las Vegas, will close this summer. The resort opened in 1989. It hosted many shows, including a Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil production and Siegfried and Roy's iconic tiger-taming act. For now, the hotel says it won't take reservations past July 14. A different hotel will replace The Mirage, leaving us to wonder if it was ever there at the start. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
