Aberdeen Regional Airport is receiving a state-of-the-art advanced technology Computed Tomography checkpoint scanner that provides 3-D imaging.
“Along with providing critical explosives detection capabilities, this new technology improves the ability for our TSA officers to determine whether an item inside a carry-on bag is a possible threat,” said Acting South Dakota TSA Federal Security Director David Durgan in a press release.
The machine installation starts May 30 and expected completion is June 1.
During times of high volume, delays are possible at the checkpoint. Airport staff say passengers should arrive 90 minutes before their flight and keep prohibited items out of their bags to ensure an efficient screening process.
The new checkpoint CT technology should lead to fewer bag checks, the release said. Passengers using these machines are permitted to leave laptops in their carry-on bags.
Watertown Regional Airport and Pierre Regional Airport will receive checkpoint CT technology later in June.
