For some of the children who lived and died at the Rapid City Indian Boarding School, the only physical record of their life is a listing of their sex and the date they passed away. No one knows their name, tribal affiliation or even cause of death.
The Remembering the Children Memorial seeks to tell their stories. Construction on the memorial starts this spring, weather permitting.
But you can see photos, documents and art related to this history at the Tusweca Gallery in Rapid City. The exhibit opens Saturday, Sept. 30 with a night of remembrance and celebration.
Amy Sazue, executive director of the Remembering the Children Memorial, brings us an update.
