Film and TV actor William Shatner will headline this year’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner in Sioux Falls.
The event takes place at the Sioux Falls Convention Center Oct. 30.
Now in its 43rd year, the event honors South Dakota law enforcement officers. It also serves as a fundraiser to support national and local charities, including Make-A-Wish, the Special Olympics, LifeScape and more.
Gene Abdallah founded the Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner as a way for local business and community leaders to come together and honor law enforcement officers throughout South Dakota. Each year at the dinner, one law enforcement officer receives the William J. Janklow Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.
Shatner is known for playing Capt. James T. Kirk on the franchise "Star Trek."
But the 93-year-old actor has also played several law enforcement related roles on programs like "T.J. Hooker," "The Practice," and "Boston Legal." He also hosted the reality-based TV series "Rescue 911."
He also is a prolific author, director, producer and even a recording artist. In 2021, at the age of 90, Shatner became the oldest person to fly into space when he flew aboard the Blue Origin suborbital capsule.
Limited seats remain. Those interested in sponsoring tables of 10 people or more should call 605-338-4304.
