In the Moment Live from Rapid City

In the Moment is broadcasting live from the Black Hills Surgical Hospital Studio at SDPB’s Black Hills Studio July 23-26. Host Lori Walsh is interviewing a wide range of guests on a variety of topics.

Recently the state legislature in Hawai’i banned the sale of sunscreen that contains certain chemicals because of the impact they have on the environment. This begs the question: how can you protect yourself against ultraviolet rays that can cause skin aging, skin damage and skin cancer, and still protect the environment? Rapid City Dermatologist, Dr. Roger Knutsen, will help us sort it out.

Gov. Daugaard will join Lori to discuss the Western Governors’ Conference that recently took place in Rapid City. They’ll also discuss the state surplus and the winding down of his administration.

Lori will be joined by our South Dakota political junkies to discuss the latest news and how it might affect the 2018 elections. And we’ll feature more candidates for the South Dakota state legislature in our “Meet the Candidates” series.

Hear about the History of Ellsworth Air Force Base with author George A. Larson. His book, “Thunder Over Dakota: The Complete History of Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota” tells the story of the base, units, and personnel that have defended the United States for over seventy years, and traces the heritage of the military facility beginning in World War II.

Karen Mortimer, Heather Dawn Thompson and Sarah Pierce discuss Mniluzahan Okolakiciyapi Ambassadors (MOA), which offers a network of empathetic, compassionate community members who continue to educate themselves, and one another, about the moments in our history that have torn us apart as a community, rather than brought us together as a people.

Music will also be included. A chapter of “Summer with the Symphony” features the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 10, recorded February 3rd at the Washington Pavilion.

Additionally, we’ll have a couple live performances from Black Hills area musicians. Heath Johnson is an Americana Country performer from Spearfish. And classic blues and rock will be performed by local favorites James Van Nuys and Carrie Bartsch.
