Avera begins work on a new family health center facility on the east side of Sioux Falls.

David Flicek is the President and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital University Health Center. He and other city leaders were at the official ground-breaking today.

Flicek says the new center will offer a range of care including primary and urgent care as well as an emergency department.

“This facility will actually draw from probably Brandon, Garretson, Larchwood, Hawarden—all of those communities outside on the east side of Sioux Falls that could come to this growing side of the community,” Flicek said.

Flicek said Avera will hire around 60 employees.

The free-standing emergency department will stabilize urgent-care patients. Then they can be transferred to other Avera specialty facilities free of charge.

The project will be completed in January of 2023.
