South Dakota native Adam Vinatieri now holds the record for the most points scored in a NFL career.

On Sunday, the 45-year old veteran kicker, and currently the oldest active NFL player, passed Morton Anderson’s all-time scoring record. The Indianapolis Colts were in Oakland to play the Raiders. Vinatieri entered the game needing just five-points to pass Anderson’s career point total of 2,544.

With less than 30-seconds to play in the first half, history was made…

Adam Vinatieri was born in Yankton, South Dakota, graduated from high school at Rapid City Central, and is an alum of South Dakota State University.

By most in the game today, he is considered the greatest kicker in NFL history, and now he has the numbers to back it up.

“I never thought I’d be standing here talking about all-time records, but I love my teammates, all of them for the past 20-some years, who have unselfishly gone out there and helped me do my job,” said Vinatieri during the post-game press conference.

Indianapolis Head Coach Frank Reich honored his kicker in the locker after the game by giving Vinatieri the game ball.
