The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits defeated the University of South Dakota Coyotes 72-57 on Tuesday afternoon for the women’s summit league basketball championship. This is the third time these two teams have met this season, and after splitting the season series with each winning at home, the Jackrabbits reigned supreme in the conference championship game.

Senior forward Nicole Seekamp led USD with 21 points. She also attributed three rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman guard Macy Miller led the Jackrabbits with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.

This is the sixth summit league championship in seven years for the SDSU women’s basketball team. The Jackrabbits are also 18-1 all-time in Summit League tournament play, since becoming eligible in 2009. Their only loss came last season when the USD Coyotes eliminated the Jackrabbits in the semi-final round. Both of these teams also met in the 2013 women’s summit league championship game, SDSU won.

6,926 fans shoved into the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center for the women’s championship game, setting an all-time attendance record for a D1 women’s conference championship game this season.

South Dakota State receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with their win on Tuesday afternoon. The women’s NCAA selection show will take place on Monday March 16 at 6 pm on ESPN.
