South Dakota Mines invites the community to this year’s Parade of Trees, Dec. 3-4 from 9am-6pm, and Dec. 5 from 9am-noon in the Surbeck Center Beck Ballroom.

The 2025 theme, Winter Folklore, was chosen from nearly 300 campus votes, with runners up like Gnome for the Holidays, Dinosaurs, and Steampunk. Student groups, departments, and campus organizations have created tree displays inspired by wintery folklore from around the world.

Visitors can vote for the People’s Choice Award, while a select panel of judges will select winners for Best Lighting, Most Unique, and more. Past themes have included Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry Potter, and Anything But a Tree.

Sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement, the Parade of Trees has become a cherished tradition at Mines. The event is free and open to all. Families, students, and community members are invited to explore the displays and enjoy a dose of holiday cheer!
