A Sturgis man is being sentenced to 65-years in prison for felony crimes involving children.

Forty-year-old Lance Lowell Long was sentenced for three different rape charges, three counts of aggravated assault and five counts of abuse and cruelty to a minor.

The attorney general’s office said the 11 felony counts involved five different children.

Long previously served time in prison for similar child abuse crimes.

Marry Jackley is the state Attorney General who helped prosecute the case. He said the case was a hard one for his office.

“Our thoughts and support remain with these young victims. This was a difficult case to investigate and prosecute, and thank you to those who worked on this case,” Jackley said.

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He received a degree from Augustana University in English and Journalism. He started at SDPB as an intern before transitioning to a politics, business and everything in-between reporter based in Sioux Falls.
