On Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, just over 3300 people participated in the fall Crazy Horse Memorial Volksmarch. A volksmarch is simply an organized hike through a scenic or historic area. Organizers say this bi-annual event is the most popular volksmarch in the United States. The spring event is generally held in June, the fall edition in September.
Walkers enjoy unique access to trails on the Crazy Horse Memorial grounds, and unique, close-up views of the Crazy Horse scupture below and from a viewing platform atop the mountain carving.
The event is sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) and hosted by Crazy Horse Memorial®.
