State postpones hearing on 'divisive concepts' rules

DOE

The next meeting of the South Dakota Board of Education Standards is postponed to an undetermined date.

A Department of Education release says the meeting is postponed to review public comments.

The purpose of the meeting is a public hearing to consider proposed rules. The rules would prohibit the adoption of content standards promoting so-called “divisive concepts.” The proposed rules are an attempt to comply with an executive order from Gov. Kristi Noem.

The meeting had been scheduled for Monday.

C.J. Keene is a Rapid City-based journalist covering politics, the court system, education, and culture.
