Roosevelt Elementary in Watertown to stay open

Watertown School District

A tied school board vote has saved Roosevelt Elementary in Watertown for the time being.

The district was considering closing the 70-year-old school as part of an effort to save funds and consolidate resources amid declining enrolment numbers.

A “partner school concept” was proposed for Roosevelt students. That would have split them across four other schools based on age groups.

Two board members were in support of the closure, two opposed, and the school board president was absent – resulting in the tie.
