Loving your clothes can help break the fast fashion cycle.

This segment originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

Head to your favorite store or online retailer and you'll likely be shopping for a season. Fast fashion means your finds will be out-of-style next year—or they're designed to only last so long.

What's the impact of that cycle on the global environment? A new book explores just that.

"Unraveled: The Life and Death of a Garment" follows the path of a pair of jeans from its beginning to its end. Author Maxine Bédat introduces you to the people who make your clothes and the people who take them away when you're done wearing them.

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
Ellen Koester served as a producer of "In the Moment," SDPB's daily news and culture broadcast.
