This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

For 124 years, the Audubon Society has called on birders to count the winged residents they see in their areas. The Christmas Bird Count provides comprehensive ornithologic data to scientists.

This year's count starts on Dec. 14. We get a preview of what to expect for South Dakota's counts from Nancy Hilding, president of the Prairie Hills Audubon Society.
