The South Dakota Department of Health is now offering grants for nursing and long-term care facilities.

Funding for these facilities has become a nationwide challenge. Several South Dakota facilities have closed in recent years due to financial strains.

The funding is intended to support recruitment and retention efforts through salary increases and upgrading part-time positions to full-time, according to a release from the Department of Health.

Grants of up to $20,000 are available for applying facilities. The deadline for applications is April 15.
