The Drug Enforcement Agency's next Prescription Take-Back Day is April 27.
Locations like pharmacies and police stations will have secure medication drop boxes where prescriptions can be deposited for disposal, no questions asked.
South Dakota has collected nearly 53,000 pounds of medication for disposal since 2017, according to the Department of Social Services.
"Participating in the April 27 Take-Back Day event is a small thing we can all do to combat the big issue of drug abuse," said Department of Social Services Cabinet Secretary Matt Althoff.
