Golf - SDPB State Championship Coverage

For most of us, getting a hole-in-one is a once in a lifetime thing. Maybe none of us ever get it. But for Groton Area senior Carly Guthmiller, not only did she get one, but it happened at the state tournament.

This past weekend brought state championship competitions for both softball and golf. SDPB's Nate Wek was there, and shares some highlights from the playing fields.

A Sully Buttes kid has won a state boys golf championship for the first time since 1977. Gavin Colson, a sophomore for the Chargers, finished the ‘B’ boys state tournament on Tuesday with a score of six-over-par.

Clark/Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich is the state ‘B’ girls golf champion for this year. The Cyclones freshman completed the two-day tournament at +12 – a six stroke lead over Jayce Pugh of Miller who shot +18 and placed second.

The 2024 SDHSAA spring state golf championships wrapped up action on Tuesday from Yankton (AA), Sioux Falls (A), and Brookings (B Boys and B Girls).
